Zoho-backed Arattai, a homegrown messaging platform, is set for a significant update as end-to-end encryption is slated to roll out on Tuesday night. Founder Sridhar Vembu announced the update via social media, hinting at the introduction of more exciting features following this pivotal transition.
Vembu urged users to update their Arattai app from the Play Store or App Store and to encourage their contacts to do the same. It's important because only users with the latest version will be able to exchange encrypted messages. Once both parties have updated, a new encrypted chat session will start, archiving all previous non-encrypted sessions.
Initially, users will have a three-day transition period to engage in old chat sessions with contacts on outdated versions. At the end of this period, system-wide encryption will be mandated. Although group chats remain unencrypted for now, Vembu assures that this feature is forthcoming, promising a backup option shortly too.
