An Indian defence firm has launched a new manufacturing facility in Pune dedicated to producing Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs). This new plant signifies a crucial advancement in the partnership with U.S.-based Liquid Robotics to co-develop and co-produce advanced maritime systems, according to an official announcement made on Thursday.
The facility highlights the collaborative efforts of Liquid Robotics, a Boeing enterprise, and Sagar Defence Engineering, aiming to reinforce India's defence industrial base. The plant's focus will be on producing USVs, integral to the partnership's objective to bolster undersea domain awareness via local production capacities and build capabilities for the Wave Glider platform.
The Wave Glider, developed by Liquid Robotics, is a pioneering USV powered by wave and solar energy, known for its durability and efficiency. By enabling production, ocean testing, and maintenance of unmanned maritime systems, this collaboration blends global technological prowess with Indian innovation, fostering advanced solutions for intricate maritime challenges and establishing India as a hub for future maritime innovation.
