Netflix Overcomes Challenges in Malaysia

Netflix has described varying demographics and cultural nuances as some of the biggest challenges it faced with its launch in Malaysia. The video streaming platform in its three years in Malaysia recalls tackling the issues on breadth and depth.
The newly elected Malaysian Government in 2018 added another challenge by imposing digital taxation on international online service providers. Netflix overcame this hurdle by localizing its content offering. This year, it's increasing its investment in over 100 new and returning originals from Asian storytellers across eight countries in Asia. To remove language barriers and deliver the best television experience, Netflix also invested in subtitling and dubbing with localized user interfaces in Thai, Korean, Traditional and Simplified Chinese and Japanese.
In an official statement, the video streaming platform said its three years in Malaysia has been a priceless learning journey in understanding the market. "The Malaysian market has only increased the streaming service's desire to provide the best form of quality entertainment to its members whilst continuously enhancing the way Malaysians consume content."
Last November, Netflix launched its mobile-only plan for subscribers in Malaysia. Users can subscribe to the plan through the mobile app or through the website accessed by a smartphone.
