Taiwan to install an offshore wind project along the western coast

Taiwan will install an offshore wind project along the western coast which will mark a new beginning in energy transformation in the country and will stress further to Taiwan's commitment to the development of renewable energy.
President Tsai Ing-Wen at the ceremony held in Changhua county said the project will not only provide a new source of power to the nation but will also help in generating 20,000 jobs.
The government announced that the project for 10 offshore wind farms, which will have installed capacity of 3,836 megawatts by 2030, and the project is awarded to seven developers.
Out of the seven developers, two of them were the state-run Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) and China Steel Corp. which is the largest steelmaker in Taiwan.
While speaking on the event, President Tsai said that the Government's aim is to increase the amount of electricity generated from renewable sources nationwide to 20 percent of total supply by 2025.
President Tsai Ing-Wen said the Offshore Wind project could encourage nearly USD 33.65 billion of new investment in the country, and this project will encourage local systems and material supply chains to upgrade and improve their capability in offshore marine construction and engineering.
