A student of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore was killed and two of his classmates were injured in a road accident in Amravati district of Maharashtra, police said Monday.

The incident took place near village Kalamkhar on Amravati-Burhanpur road Sunday evening. Mohammad Abdul Razak (23), the resident of Chennai, was killed while his two friends, Manoj Kumar Shreedhar Reddy (22) and Nishant Ingle, were injured, police said.

Razak, Reddy and Ingle, all first-year students of IIM-Indore, along with four other friends who were in another car, were returning to Indore after spending the weekend at Melghat Tiger Reserve. Police said that Ingle, who was driving the car, lost control following a collision with another vehicle.

The car then rammed into a roadside tree. Razak, sitting next to the driver's seat, and Reddy, who was on the back seat, was seriously injured while Ingle had minor injuries, police said.

They were taken to Amravati District Hospital where Razak died during treatment.

Reddy, who received a serious head injury, was shifted to a hospital in Nagpur Monday evening and his condition was stable, police said. Further probe is on.
