Cine fans in for a treat at Chennai film fest

Japanese film 'Shoplifters', the Palme d'Or winner at the Cannes film festival this year, would be among the award-winning movies from Zambia, Costa Rica and Kenya to be screened at the 16th Chennai International Film Festival here later this month, the organisers said Saturday.

The festival, organised by the Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation, would screen award-winning movies from Zambia, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Ladakh and Kenya, a press release said.

A total of 150 award-winning films from 59 countries would be screened at various theatres in the city between December 13 and 20, it said.

'Shoplifters' would be screened on the opening day, it said. Romanian film 'Touch Me Not', 'Cold War' (Poland), Dogman (Italy) and 'Yomeddine' (Egypt) are some of the other  films which would be shown during the festival. 

Twelve Tamil films, including the latest '96', directed by Prem Kumar, would also be showcased, the release said. Several celebrities, including Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty, film director from Singapore, Shilpa, Abu Shahed Emon (director from Bangladesh) are also expected to participate in the event, the release added.
