Gur prices up on paucity of stocks

  • India

Gur prices firmed up by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale gur (jaggery) market in the national capital today following paucity of stocks and speculative buying.

Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also settled higher by Rs 100 per quintal on scarcity of stocks and better offtake.

Marketmen said paucity of stocks on negligible supplies because of adverse weather conditions along with increased offtake by stockists and retailers to meet the ongoing festive season demand, brought the upsurge in gur prices.

In Delhi, gur Pedi and dhayya prices hardened by Rs 100 each to end the day at Rs 3,600-3,700 and Rs 3,700-3,800 per quintal, respectively.

In Muzaffarnagar, gur Raskat prices rose by Rs 50 to finish at Rs 2,650-2,700 per quintal, after frantic demand from beer making industries.

Coming to Muradnagar, gur Pedi improved by Rs 100 to Rs 3,250-3,350 per quintal.

Following are today's rates (in Rs per quintal):

Gur chakku Rs 3,400-3,500, pedi Rs 3,600-3,700, dhayya Rs 3,700-3,800 and shakkar Rs 3,800-3,900.
