Thailand has projected that the number of Indian tourists visiting the country to reach 1.50 million this year, a top official said on Monday.

Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai, Cholada Siddhivarn said the number of Indian tourists who visited Thailand was 9.19 lakh between January and July 2018.

"It is 13.24 percent higher than the number of people who visited Thailand during the same period last year.

The growth is good and we can see more growth for the rest of the year. We project that the Indian tourists visiting Thailand will be 1.50 million this year", she told PTI.

In 2017, the number of Indian tourists who had visited Thailand crossed 1.2 million year-on-year, she said.

Asked about the reason for the increase in a number of people visiting Bangkok, she said, "We'd introduced a number of products and services (for Indian tourists). We have lots more to offer in Thailand for ladies, family segments".

On whether the weakening of rupee against the US dollar would have an impact on tourists flow, she said, "I do not think it will affect much. Because we focus on the high-end traveler".

To another query on the projected number of Indian tourists visiting Thailand by 2020, she said, "By that year, we have a target to reach two million Indian tourists. For that, we have to work harder".

Siddhivarn and senior officials were here to take part in the ongoing roadshows 'Amazing Thailand' "With an aim to ensure steady growth through the roadshows, we plan to reach out to newer markets and enhance our association with travel trade partners", executive director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (Asean, South Asia, and South Pacific region) Walailak Noypayak said in a statement.

"The roadshow conducted here and the other scheduled to be held on September 5 in Indore would be a platform not only to showcase our destination but also to enhance our relations with our partner in these cities", Siddhivarn said.
