Union Home Minister Amit Shah will take part in a number of functions during his visit to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, including paying tribute to a legendary father-son duo blown up by a cannon during the fight for Independence, officials said.

After reaching Dumna airport here from Delhi at around 11.30 am, he will head to the memorial of erstwhile Gondwana Empire ruler Shankar Shah and his son Raghunath Shah, near Rani Durgawati Hospital, where floral tributes will be paid, they said.

''The tribal icons were tied to a cannon and blown to pieces by the British after they revolted for the sake of the country's Independence. Following this, Shah will address the Gaurav Samaroh at Garrison Ground to honour tribal leaders who participated in the Independence movement,'' a release said.

This event is part of the 75th anniversary (Amrit Mahotsav) celebrations of the country’s Independence, it added.

Shah is scheduled to launch the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 by handing over cooking gas connections to beneficiaries at the Veterinary College ground, and will then take part in a function at Shahid Smarak later in the evening, the release informed.

''Thereafter he is slated to visit Narsingh Temple close to Shastri Bridge at 6.10 pm. After visiting Dayodaya Teerth, a place of worship associated with the Jains, at Tilwaraghat along the banks of Narmada River, he is scheduled to leave for New Delhi around 7.30 pm,'' an official said.
