The Navy on Tuesday rescued seven Indian fishermen off the Gujarat coast after their boat got flooded, it said in a statement.

INS Karuva of the Indian Navy was operating near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) when it received a distress call around 9:20 am, the statement said.

Indian fishing vessel 'Neelkanth' reported heavy flooding in its machinery compartment resulting in the non-availability of propulsion, it said.

INS Karuva rushed towards the fishing vessel for providing help, it said.

The compartment of the fishing vessel was filled with 30 tons of water. It was de-flooded and the boat was made float-worthy, after which it was towed back to Okha in Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat, said the statement.

''Seven crew members of Neelkanth were taken onboard INS Karuva and given due medical attention. These personnel were carried back to Okha onboard an Indian Naval Ship and handed over to marine police for further proceedings,'' it said.
