Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has intervened to halt the transfer of the vehicle inspection unit (VIU) from Burari to Jhuljhuli. Gahlot cited the lack of his prior approval and insufficient stakeholder consultation as reasons for the decision.
Operators have been vocal about the operational challenges posed by the abrupt shift. "Such a major decision was taken without my prior approval and implemented in haste without proper consultation with the stakeholders, which has caused great hardship to the vehicle owners as well as operators," Gahlot conveyed to the transport commissioner in a formal communication.
Gahlot has directed that the shifting of the VIU be suspended until further orders. Following the conclusion of the Model Code of Conduct, he plans to convene a meeting with the transport commissioner to finalize the modalities of the move. Meanwhile, the Burari VIU will continue conducting fitness tests for affected vehicle categories.
