The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, with support from the World Bank Group and co-hosted by the Government of Austria, held the International Energy Investment Forum in Vienna. This significant event gathered high-level delegations from Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, international financial institutions, and private investors to discuss the future of energy in Central Asia. Over 200 delegates attended, focusing on energy sector reforms, investment opportunities, and clean energy transition in the region.

Showcasing Progress and Investment Opportunities:

The Kyrgyz Government presented 12 investment projects totaling $16 billion, primarily in hydropower and solar energy. These initiatives aim to diversify and expand the country's power generation capacity, leveraging both public and private investments.

Strategic Significance for Central Asia:

Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized the forum's historic significance, particularly highlighting the development of the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant. This project is expected to be a game-changer for the region, fostering sustainable development and green energy transition.

Commitment to Reliable Energy Access:

Antonella Bassani, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, underscored the centrality of reliable energy access for regional growth and development. The goal is to ensure that every Central Asian household has access to clean energy sources, such as solar, wind, or hydropower, contributing to a sustainable future.

Focus on Kambarata-1 Hydropower Project:

Regional Cooperation:

The Kambarata-1 hydropower project is a strategic initiative supported by cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. It aims to enhance energy security, support green transition, and improve water management across the region, benefiting irrigation, water supply, and food security.

Inauguration of Donor Coordination Committee:

The Forum launched the Kambarata-1 HPP Donor Coordination Committee, including major international financial institutions and development partners. This committee will provide comprehensive support for the project's development, ensuring it meets sustainable macro-economic, commercial, environmental, and social criteria.

Inter-ministerial Agreement:

Representatives from the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan signed an inter-ministerial agreement for the joint development of the Kambarata-1 HPP, marking a significant step towards enhanced regional cooperation.

Support and Partnerships:

Central Asia Water and Energy Program (CAWEP):

The Forum was supported by CAWEP, a regional knowledge and technical assistance partnership administered by the World Bank, and funded by the European Union, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP):

ESMAP also supported the event, reflecting the collaborative effort to promote energy security and sustainable development in Central Asia.
