Kolkata Metro's Orange and Purple Lines Progress Reviewed

An official review was conducted on the progress of the remaining work on Kolkata Metro's Orange and Purple lines. Dinesh Kumar of the Railway Board chaired the meeting, emphasizing land acquisition and timely completion. The Orange Line, partially operational, aims to be fully functional by 2026.

The ongoing construction of Kolkata Metro's Orange and Purple lines was meticulously reviewed here, as revealed by an official on Thursday.

In a pivotal meeting at Metro Rail Bhavan on Wednesday, Dinesh Kumar, Railway Board's Additional Member for Land and Amenities, meticulously assessed the progress alongside officials from Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), according to the Kolkata Metro spokesperson.

Kumar's evaluation focused on the land acquisition process along both the Orange and Purple lines to ensure that the remaining work is completed punctually.

The Orange Line, linking New Garia with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport via Salt Lake and New Town, has partially begun commercial operations, particularly from Kavi Subhash (New Garia) to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing) since March 15.

Projected to be fully operational by 2026, the Orange Line's progress is under constant scrutiny. Concurrently, commercial operations have also commenced along the Joka-Majerhat segment of the Purple Line, with rapid developments occurring along the Majerhat-Esplanade stretch.

The spokesperson asserted that they aim to make the entire stretch operational within two to three years.
