Mumbai will unveil its first underground metro line, the Aqua Line, on July 24, Bharatiya Janata Party's General Secretary Vinod Tawde announced on social media platform 'X'. Tawde lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling his promise to ease the lives of Mumbaikars, saying the metro project will boost the city's speed and connectivity.
Spanning 33.5 kilometers, this new line will traverse through key areas like Colaba, Bandra, and SEEPZ, incorporating 27 stops. The route from Aarey Colony to Cuffe Parade is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban transit. Key stations include Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, and several others across Mumbai.
Initially planned for a September 2024 completion, the first phase of the Mumbai Metro 3 project has been accelerated to December 2024. Maharashtra's government has allocated Rs 1,163 crore directly to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, aiming for a swift finish. The project has seen remarkable progress with civil and station works nearing completion, and daily ridership numbers showing impressive growth.
