A Ukrainian drone attack has reportedly damaged a ferry and resulted in one fatality in Port Kavkaz, located in Russia's southern Krasnodar region. The incident was confirmed by regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev via the Telegram messaging platform.

The Ukrainian military also utilized Telegram to announce that the attack had significantly damaged the 'Slavianin,' identified as the last railway ferry used by Russia for military purposes in the region. 'The occupiers used this ferry to transport railway cars, vehicles, and containers for military purposes,' Ukraine's General Staff stated.

A fire at the port, ignited by the drone strike, was reportedly extinguished, according to the RIA state news agency, which cited an emergency services source. Reuters could not immediately verify the attack claims from either side.

Port Kavkaz, situated on a land spit opposite the Crimean peninsula, serves as a crucial connection point between Russia's mainland and Crimea, a territory annexed by Moscow from Ukraine in 2014. The port is also key for shipping Russia's oil and grain exports across the Black Sea. In May, the Ukrainian military claimed to have struck Port Kavkaz's oil terminal with missiles.
