Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday urged Railways Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw to initiate the double-line project from Agartala to Sabroom.
In a letter to Vaishnaw, Chowdhury underscored the need to convert the existing single-line track from Lumding to Sabroom via Agartala into a double line. He pointed out that the single track not only causes delays for both express and local trains but also restricts the addition of more trains or new services.
Chowdhury highlighted that Chief Minister Manik Saha has already extended support to expedite the project, with the Northeastern Frontier Railway currently conducting the Final Location Survey (FLS) for doubling the track from Chandranathpur (in Assam) to Agartala. He stressed the project's significance for enhancing trade and connectivity with other Northeastern states and Bangladesh, urging quick completion of the FLS and commencement of the double-line work.
