On Tuesday, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the legislative assembly that despite the competition from Mopa's international airport, Dabolim airport continues to thrive. In response to a query by Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai, Sawant highlighted Dabolim’s essential role in Goa’s air traffic.
Situated in South Goa, Dabolim airport has a significant 57 percent share in the state's air traffic, even after Mopa airport's inauguration in December 2022. Sawant pointed out the continuous rise in tourists as a factor ensuring both airports' sustained operations for the foreseeable future.
The Chief Minister assured that the state government remains committed to Dabolim’s expansion and development, including acquiring 8.3 acres from the Navy for improvements. With Goa being an international tourist hub, Sawant emphasized the ongoing need for both airports to facilitate the region's tourism growth.
