Elon Musk's social media platform X has launched a lawsuit against a group of advertisers, alleging that a significant boycott deprived the company of billions in revenue and violated antitrust laws.
The lawsuit, filed in a Texas federal court on Tuesday, names the World Federation of Advertisers, along with Unilever, Mars, CVS Health, and Orsted as defendants. The company, formerly known as Twitter, claims that the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, an initiative of the advertising group, coordinated a halt in advertising following Musk's acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion in late 2022, which included major staff and policy changes.
Musk took to platform X to comment on the lawsuit, declaring, 'now it is war,' citing two years of polite encounters that resulted in 'nothing but empty words.'
