Seventeen Indian road construction workers, stranded in Bangladesh amid escalating turmoil, have been safely repatriated, the Border Security Force (BSF) confirmed on Thursday.
The workers, employed by AFCONS Infrastructure Private Limited for a road project from Akhaura to Kishoreganj, were retrieved through the international border in Tripura.
Following a request on Wednesday night, the BSF quickly established contact with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), orchestrating a coordinated operation to ensure the workers' safe transit.
In a display of cross-border cooperation, the BGB facilitated the workers' movement to the integrated check post at Akhaura, where they underwent customs and immigration procedures before being handed over to the BSF at ICP Agartala.
The BSF, responsible for guarding 856 km of the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, has maintained heightened alert following the political unrest in Dhaka.
