Samsung is recalling more than 1.12 million electric ranges used for stovetops after reports of 250 fires and dozens of injuries.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that these slide-in ranges have front-mounted knobs that can be accidentally activated, posing a fire risk.

As of now, Samsung has received over 300 reports of incidental knob activation since 2013, leading to about 250 fires. These fires caused extensive property damage in at least 18 cases and resulted in the deaths of seven pets, the CPSC reported.

The CPSC also noted that around 40 injuries have been linked to these incidents, with eight requiring medical attention.

Consumers can check if their electric range is included in the recall by looking at the model number on the product, with a list available from both Samsung and the CPSC online.

The ranges were sold between May 2013 and August 2024 at retailers such as Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, and Lowe's, as well as online at Samsung.com.

Affected users are urged to contact Samsung Electronics America in New Jersey for free knob locks or covers. In the interim, consumers should keep children and pets away from the knobs and ensure the range is off when not in use, the CPSC advised.

The Commission also emphasized general safety, recommending that consumers avoid placing or storing items on the range to prevent accidental ignition.
