Tragic Bus Crash in Turkiye Claims Nine Lives

A bus traveling between cities in Turkiye swerved off a highway and slammed into an overpass pillar Friday, tragically killing nine people on board, an official announced.

The crash happened near the town of Polatli, roughly 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the capital, Ankara, according to Gov Vasip Sahin who spoke to HaberTurk television.

The bus was on a route from Izmir in western Turkiye to Agri in the east when the incident occurred. The accident, which resulted in the closure of one side of the highway, left 26 others injured. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash.

Injured passengers were swiftly taken to hospitals in Polatli and Ankara. The conditions of those injured remain undisclosed.
