Swedish furniture retailer Ikea announced on Tuesday that it is piloting same-day delivery services in Hyderabad, with plans to extend this initiative to all its markets in the coming year.

The company also revealed that it has achieved 100% electric vehicle (EV)-powered deliveries in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune, in line with its commitment to a sustainable value chain. A statement from Ikea India indicated that similar efforts are underway in Mumbai, where it expects to reach its carbon-free goal in the next few months.

Ikea's sustainability approach will include an EV-first strategy as it enters new markets, including Delhi-NCR. Currently, Ikea's operational stores are located in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, and Bengaluru, along with two city stores in Mumbai.

Susanne Pulverer, CEO of Ikea India, emphasized the importance of a sustainable value chain to the company's growth. 'This milestone is just the beginning of our efforts, and we are proud to lead the EV journey from our foundational years in India. We believe that profit and planet can be co-created and will maintain this mindset moving forward,' she said. Ikea’s switch to 100% electric last-mile delivery commenced in 2019, initially using 3-wheeled tuk-tuks for smaller orders and later incorporating retrofit trucks for larger furniture deliveries, supported by in-house EV charging infrastructure.
