Royal Jordanian Halts Flights to Beirut Amid Regional Tensions
Royal Jordanian has suspended its flights to Beirut citing the current situation. The decision comes following Hezbollah's retaliation against Israel for the assassination of its senior commander. There are rising concerns of broader regional conflict given recent escalations involving Iran, Hezbollah, and the assassination of a Hamas leader.
Royal Jordanian, the national airline of Jordan, has suspended all flights to Beirut starting Sunday, citing the current volatile situation. The state news agency provided no specific timeline for the suspension.
Officials clarified that Jordanian airspace remains unaffected. This decision follows a significant escalation involving Lebanon's Hezbollah, who launched hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel in response to the assassination of senior commander Fuad Shukr in an Israeli strike on July 30.
The Israeli military countered shortly before assessing that Hezbollah was preparing for further attacks. The situation contributes to heightened regional tensions, especially with concerns about Iran's potential reaction following the assassination of Palestinian Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31.
