In a significant development, German and Kenyan officials have signed an agreement aimed at addressing the skilled labour shortage in Germany and ensuring the efficient repatriation of Kenyans who lack residency rights. The agreement was finalized during Kenyan President William Ruto's visit to Berlin, where he met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Chancellor Scholz emphasized the importance of the agreement, calling it a crucial step for closer cooperation on migration between the two nations. He noted that Germany has been facing a skilled labour shortage that will persist for many years, requiring about 400,000 skilled immigrants each year to fill the gap.
Kenyan President Ruto remarked on the mutual benefits of the deal, highlighting the synergy between Kenyan talent and German technological resources. Germany has previously signed similar agreements with India, Georgia, and Morocco and plans to sign another with Uzbekistan soon.
