Air India is implementing a new cabin crew policy for both domestic and international flights, requiring certain crew members to share rooms during layovers, according to a source.
This revised policy will also extend to Air India Express, which has recently merged with AIX Connect. Additionally, allowances for international flight cabin crew will be increased from the USD 75-125 range to USD 85-135. There are no changes for domestic flight allowances.
A spokesman highlighted the need to harmonize employee policies following the formal integration of Air India and Vistara. The new compensation and benefits are designed to remain competitive and aligned with industry standards. The source revealed that the room-sharing rule excludes in-flight managers and executives, who generally have over eight years of experience. This practice is new for Air India but already exists at Air India Express and Vistara.
The policy changes coincide with ongoing grievances from a section of Air India Express cabin crew members seeking legal redress for HR issues. Meanwhile, Air India has also introduced a performance-linked compensation and benefits policy effective April 2023. The integration of Vistara with Air India will be completed next month, following the completion of the AIX Connect merger on October 1.
