A truck driver and his wife were feared dead after their vehicle plunged into the Ganga River near Devprayag on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway, police reported on Monday.

Witnesses, at approximately 5.30 am, informed the authorities after observing broken trees along the roadside, prompting a swift response from local police led by Devprayag Police Station in-charge Mahipal Singh Rawat.

The submerged truck was discovered in the river, and the owner confirmed that driver Ajay, 38, from Najibabad, Uttar Pradesh, and his spouse Rajeshwari were in the vehicle. A search operation is now underway to locate the missing couple.
