The Jindal Group announced on Tuesday the commissioning of a new cement grinding unit in Odisha, capable of producing 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MnTPA). This facility marks a significant milestone in the group's Rs 2,200 crore expansion strategy.
The group's subsidiary, Jindal Panther Cement (JPC), leads this initiative aimed at low-carbon cement production. The plant is designed to utilize approximately 1 MnTPA of blast furnace slag, a by-product from their steel manufacturing processes.
JPC CEO Rohit Vohra highlighted the unit's contribution to sustainable practices, as the company aims to increase production capacity at its Angul and Raigarh sites to 7 MnTPA, requiring an investment of Rs 2,160 crore. The eco-friendly facility's output will primarily serve markets in central and eastern India.
