Global visitors who are planning to visit Rwanda can add Gishwati-Mukura National Park in the itinerary.

The tourist can now commence visiting Gishwati-Mukura National Park as the tourism development master plan and biodiversity survey linked to it have been successfully completed.

The area was almost depleted some year back due to issues like illegal mining in the mineral-rich forest, livestock farming and encroachment. The government of Rwanda received a gigantic amount of USD 9.5 million from Global Environment Facility through World Bank for restoring and conserving the forest.

"By June this year, the project will have completed its restoration activities and Rwanda Development Board will start to organise plans related to tourism. We are building basic infrastructure and administrative premises as well as control posts for the park management," Patrick Nsabimana said. He is the project coordinator set to look after the restoration of the endangered landscape at Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA).

As far as the expansion in the tourism industry is concerned, Rwanda is looking forward to augmenting the revenues from USD 438 million in 2017 to USD 800 million by 2024. The government further believes that a huge chunk of revenue will be added in the overall annual tourism industry's revenue due to the constant increase in tourists' attractions over this park. Whereas the tourist attractions in this area include hiking and biking trails, both inside and outside the forest, wildlife viewing, tea tours and community-based experiences, he added.
