British American Tobacco, known for its Lucky Strike and Dunhill brands, announced it will incur a £6.2 billion financial setback from ongoing litigation in Canada. The news led to a sharp 9% drop in its share value, marking a major blow to its market capitalisation.

The lawsuit settlement, initially proposed at C$32.5 billion, faces objections from several parties, including Philip Morris International's Canadian branch. Additional pressures loom in Australia and Bangladesh, where tax hikes threaten BAT's business, creating what the company calls 'significant regulatory and fiscal headwinds.'

While BAT's Chief Executive Tadeu Marroco noted these challenges will impact the company's performance in 2025, improvements are expected in 2026. However, investor confidence is shaken, with BAT projecting only a 1% revenue growth in 2025 and enduring market losses on earnings per share.
