The government has rolled out new guidelines for acquiring an import license for premium frozen duck meat, targeting the hospitality sector. According to the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), authorization is mandatory for importers.
The DGFT specifies that importers need to furnish a declaration stating the imported meat is intended for use by 3-star and higher-rated hotels, as sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism. These hotels can also directly import this meat without requiring additional authorization.
Importers serving as distributors or suppliers are required to keep records of supply transactions with qualifying hotels. Evidence of these transactions must be submitted when applying for subsequent import authorizations. Failure to comply with these norms could result in legal consequences, the DGFT warns.
