Jordan’s Private Sector Champions Recognized for Advancing Gender Equality at Diversity Trailblazers Awards
PwC Jordan secured the prestigious top prize, recognized for its commitment to supporting female employees and setting a benchmark for diversity initiatives.
Private sector companies leading the charge in gender equality and women's empowerment were celebrated at Jordan's inaugural Diversity Trailblazers Awards ceremony, held in Amman. The event, organized by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in collaboration with the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) and supported by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, highlighted businesses fostering inclusive workplaces and advancing women's leadership in the workforce.
Honoring Excellence in Gender Inclusion
PwC Jordan secured the prestigious top prize, recognized for its commitment to supporting female employees and setting a benchmark for diversity initiatives. Bank al Etihad and Estarta Solutions earned second and third place, respectively, for their impactful efforts in promoting workplace diversity and women's career advancement.
With over 60 companies competing for the awards, finalists were rigorously evaluated by representatives from IFC, ASE, and UN Women. Additional Diversity Champions were acknowledged for sectoral excellence, including:

A Step Towards Economic Growth
The awards come at a crucial time as Jordan grapples with one of the world's lowest female workforce participation rates—just 14 percent in 2023, compared to 63 percent of men, according to the World Bank. Socio-cultural challenges, workplace discrimination, and inadequate childcare remain significant barriers for women entering and remaining in the workforce.
"The Netherlands is committed to supporting Jordan in creating a resilient economy with a strong emphasis on women's inclusion," said Harry Verweij, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Jordan. "Our financial support for this IFC initiative underscores our dedication to recognizing and encouraging private sector leaders who prioritize female empowerment."
Driving Lasting Change in the Workplace
Khawaja Aftab Ahmed, IFC's Regional Director for the Middle East, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, emphasized the role of employers in fostering gender equality: "With these pioneering awards, we aim to not only recognize champions of inclusion but also inspire others to follow suit, ensuring sustainable progress for women in the workplace."
Mazen Wathaifi, CEO of ASE, reinforced the significance of tapping into Jordan's underutilized female talent pool. "Harnessing women's economic potential isn't just beneficial—it's essential for the country's growth. By spotlighting leading companies, we hope to drive meaningful change and set new workplace standards."
Encouraging Dialogue on Women's Workplace Impact
The awards ceremony featured an engaging panel discussion on women's contributions to the workforce, moderated by TV presenter Rahaf Sawalha and featuring insights from Engicon's Business Development Director, Hazem Zureiqat.
A Broader Global Commitment
The IFC and World Bank Group continue to prioritize breaking down barriers for women's employment and leadership through the IFC's roadmap for gender and economic inclusion and the World Bank Group Gender Strategy 2030.
In Jordan, the IFC has been a steadfast partner for 50 years, investing over $2 billion in various sectors, helping create and maintain an average of 18,000+ jobs annually, of which over 3,300 are held by women. Through these investments and advisory services, the IFC remains committed to fostering inclusive economic development in Jordan.
The Diversity Trailblazers Awards serve as a landmark initiative, inspiring Jordanian businesses to adopt inclusive policies and paving the way for a more equitable future in the workplace.
