On Wednesday, the Union government sanctioned a ₹417 crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, aiming to bolster local manufacturing and innovation. The initiative received nods from Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada, highlighting the critical role of the State Government in its implementation.
The project, under the development of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), expands over 200 acres and is projected to attract ₹2,500 crore in investments. This venture is poised to establish world-class infrastructure and generate approximately 15,000 jobs, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of fostering manufacturing within India, noted Vaishnaw while addressing the media.
EMC 2.0 will focus on manufacturing essential sectors such as consumer electronics, automotive and industrial electronics, and communication equipment. It aims to offer startups and MSMEs access to cutting-edge infrastructure and shared facilities.
The cluster benefits from a strategic location, being highly accessible by road, rail, and air, and is positioned near major expressways and transport hubs, including the upcoming Jewar International Airport, providing it with a substantial logistical advantage.
So far, projects under this scheme have seen an investment of around ₹30,000 crore, attracting 520 companies and generating over 86,000 jobs, according to the Ministry of Electronics & IT.
