Montenegro's Transport Boost: A Step Toward EU Integration
Montenegro has secured significant funding from the EBRD and EU to enhance its transport infrastructure. The funds will finance a crucial highway section, aiding economic development and regional integration. This move is aligned with Montenegro's ongoing EU accession efforts, signaling strong support from the EU.
Montenegro has successfully secured a sizeable 350 million euros in funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union. The funding aims to enhance transport connectivity both within Montenegro and with its regional neighbors.
The EBRD has committed a 200 million euro loan to support the construction of the Matesevo-Andrijevica portion of a highway linking Bar's Adriatic port to the Serbian border. Meanwhile, the EU will contribute 150 million euros through investment grants.
EU ambassador Johann Sattler emphasized this financial support as a sign of commitment to Montenegro's EU integration ambition. In recent years, over 350 million euros in EU grants have been directed towards Montenegro's transport projects, bolstering infrastructure critical for tourism, trade, and economic growth.
