A new chapter unfolds in Tesla's journey as US regulators grant a five-week extension to the electric vehicle company to address concerns about its 'Full Self-Driving' (FSD) technology. Allegations have emerged regarding FSD-driven Tesla vehicles breaching traffic laws, prompting an intense investigation.
The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an inquiry into FSD last October after collecting numerous reports of Teslas running red lights and driving on the wrong side, resulting in crashes and injuries. This probe covers approximately 2.9 million vehicles, essentially all equipped with FSD.
Despite CEO Elon Musk's assurances of the system requiring driver attentiveness, accidents have raised alarms about spontaneous erratic behavior in Teslas. Amidst falling sales and rising competition, Tesla seeks growth through innovative robotics, maintaining investor confidence with a modest stock gain observed by the end of 2025.
