Delhi, Maharashtra, and Chandigarh Lead NITI Aayog's Electric Mobility Index

Delhi, Maharashtra, and Chandigarh have been identified as the frontrunners in NITI Aayog's inaugural India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI), marking significant advancements in the adoption of electric vehicles (EV), charging infrastructure development, and technological innovation within the sector.

The comprehensive report, titled 'India Electric Mobility Index 2024', evaluates Indian states and Union Territories across 16 key indicators, reflecting the enhanced ecosystems in certain regions. Notably, Delhi and Maharashtra excel in transport electrification, while Haryana, Karnataka, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh lead in charging infrastructure readiness.

The trajectory of EV research and innovation sees Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, and Telangana as prominent leaders. The report also highlights India's burgeoning EV market, with a 5.3% adoption rate and over 12 lakh EVs registered in 2024, supported by more than 25,000 public charging stations.
