An Air India Express flight enroute to Hyderabad was forced to make an emergency landing in Visakhapatnam due to engine troubles caused by a potential bird strike, officials reported on Thursday.

N Purushottam, Visakhapatnam Airport's director, revealed that the pilot of flight IX 2658 requested the emergency return shortly after departure as a precautionary measure.

The airline confirmed the bird hit and announced the aircraft's flight cancellation until its safety certification. Passengers were offered rescheduling or full refunds as compensation.
