Airbus announced on Wednesday that the global fleet of dedicated freighter aircraft is expected to rise by 45% over the next two decades, reaching a total of 3,420 aircraft. This growth is driven by sustained long-term trade expansion.
The expansion will consist of 815 existing freighters and an additional 2,605. Of the new freighters, 1,530 are slated for replacement, while 1,075 will cater to growth, said the European aviation giant.
Airbus highlights that air cargo growth is crucial, not only for economic support but also for fostering connectivity, transporting essential goods, and promoting local enterprises in developing regions, with the majority of demand coming from North America and Asia-Pacific.
