Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Air India, is preparing for a significant expansion with plans to add 20 to 24 aircraft to its fleet next year, according to Managing Director Aloke Singh.

Currently, Air India Express operates 110 aircraft, comprising Airbus and Boeing models, and is part of a total fleet of 282 planes shared with its parent company. Singh detailed that the expansion will emphasize growing the airline's domestic footprint, while maintaining a robust presence in international short-haul markets.

The airline's strategy includes outfitting new planes with a single economy class and modern amenities to enhance passenger experience. Despite challenges in the supply chain, Singh remains optimistic about executing the expansion plan and strengthening market presence, especially between metro cities and growing tier 2 and tier 3 locations.
