Airbus A320 Recall Sparks Global Travel Disruptions
Airbus has initiated a major recall affecting over 6,000 of its A320 jets worldwide, which could lead to significant disruptions during peak travel times. Airlines are racing to implement a required software fix, leading to potential flight delays and cancellations across several regions.
Europe's Airbus has ordered immediate repairs to over 6,000 A320 jets, impacting more than half the fleet globally in a move likely to cause disruption during the U.S.'s busiest travel weekend and beyond.
The urgent recall demands a reversion to previous software before flights can continue, a measure highlighted in a bulletin issued to airlines and reported by Reuters. This repair requirement has raised concerns among airlines, leading to projected flight delays and cancellations.
Major airlines reporting significant operational disruptions include Air France, which has already cancelled 35 flights, and Avianca, facing a 70% fleet impact and suspending ticket sales through December 8. Other airlines like American Airlines and Indigo have reported operational delays as they rush to complete the necessary software corrections.
