Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on the concluding stage of his three-nation tour with a visit to Oman from December 17 to 18, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. The trip seeks to enhance business and strategic ties, centered around the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The CEPA stands as a cornerstone of anticipated discussions, identified by industry experts as capable of doubling trade between the two nations within two to three years post-implementation. This agreement is projected to grant India access to Oman's petrochemical resources, boosting energy security, while benefiting Oman through enhanced food security.
Alkesh Joshi from Ernst & Young echoed the focus on CEPA, explaining the significance of Modi's 23-hour visit despite its brevity. Discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and engagement with the Indian diaspora are anticipated highlights. Business leaders, including Kiran Asher of Al Ansari Group, express enthusiasm for renewed business coordination facilitated by Modi's visit.
