In a momentous development, India and Oman have signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), described as a 'watershed moment' in their historic relationship by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. The agreement signifies the culmination of a shared vision for mutual prosperity and is set to transform bilateral ties in significant ways.
This agreement stands out as Oman's second free trade pact with an individual nation and the first in nearly 20 years, underscoring India's rising prominence as a strategic partner. It aims to enhance trade diversification and bolster supply chain resilience, enabling both nations to adapt to global economic shifts effectively.
The signing comes as India actively expands its free trade agreement network to bolster domestic growth and facilitate international market access. Following successful agreements with the UK, European Free Trade Association, Australia, the UAE, and Mauritius, the India-Oman CEPA is the latest step in India's forward-looking trade strategy which emphasizes resilience and diverse growth.
