Amid growing tensions over Greenland, the European Union is contemplating financial counter-measures against the United States. Primarily a trading bloc of 27 nations, the EU holds a financial toolkit capable of imposing steep tariffs on US products.
France's President Emmanuel Macron has championed the so-called 'trade bazooka'—an Anti-Coercion Instrument designed to sanction entities exerting undue pressure on the EU. Despite little support for its activation, Macron has suggested its use should the US increase tariffs.
The EU's Anti-Coercion Instrument outlines strategic responses including restricting EU market access and barring companies from public tenders. EU leaders are gathering in Brussels to discuss how to handle this escalating conflict with the US.
