Maharashtra Drives into Electric Future with New EV Charging Initiatives

Maharashtra's Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik, has instructed the establishment of EV charging stations at MSRTC's retail fuel outlets. Emphasizing a transition to electric buses, the initiative includes a public-private partnership model to introduce mandatory EV stations, aligning with eco-friendly transport goals by 2047.

Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has taken a significant step towards sustainable transport, instructing the establishment of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at all Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) retail fuel outlets. The directive aligns with a phased transition to electric buses already in motion.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting with senior officials and fuel company representatives. The initiative aims to support India's aspiration to become a developed nation by 2047 through a sustainable, eco-friendly transport system. Sarnaik stressed the importance of building the necessary EV infrastructure now to realize this goal.

Currently, about 90% of the MSRTC fleet relies on diesel. The minister revealed plans to prioritize electric buses in future procurements. Additionally, a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model will ensure EV charging points alongside diesel and CNG facilities at MSRTC lands, enhancing both revenue and environmental protection.
