Rail Boost: Expanding Connectivity and Culture in Jammu & Kashmir

The Indian government has allocated Rs 1,086 crore for Jammu and Kashmir's rail budget, focusing on enhancing connectivity, particularly in remote areas. Efforts include expanding rail lines and introducing local cuisine in Vande Bharat trains, promoting regional identity and economic development.

The Union Railway Ministry, through Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced an allocation of Rs 1,086 crore for Jammu and Kashmir in the recent rail budget. This investment underscores the government's commitment to enhancing rail connectivity and infrastructure in remote areas of the Union territory.

Key initiatives include the Vande Bharat trains, which have been pivotal in maintaining connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, especially during winter when roads are often impacted. These trains also promote regional culture by serving local cuisines such as Dogri and Kashmiri food to passengers.

Projects to further extend railways in Jammu and Kashmir are ongoing, like the Baramulla to Uri route and the Jammu–Rajouri rail project, with a focus on development, tourism, and employment. Obstacles, such as preventing damage to apple orchards, are being addressed to ensure sustainable development.
