In a groundbreaking move for the aviation sector, Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) is set to introduce hydrogen-powered buses for passenger transport. This initiative is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to promote clean and green mobility.
The project follows a Memorandum of Agreement between CIAL and the Kerala Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster Foundation, exchanged on February 1. The agreement outlines plans to procures three hydrogen fuel cell electric buses, with funding capped at Rs 2.90 crore per vehicle.
Scheduled for completion within 12 months, the project furthers the clean energy transition by significantly cutting emissions. CIAL will manage the operational aspects, with hydrogen sourced from a new green hydrogen plant in collaboration with BPCL, putting Kochi airport at the forefront of sustainable aviation transport.
