The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday staunchly defended the new India-US trade deal, asserting that it would significantly benefit India's economy, in response to criticism from the Congress. The opposition party argued that the agreement heavily favors the United States, accusing the BJP of ignoring critical economic disparities.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh took to social media, criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's handling of the interim trade agreement, while accusing him of weakened diplomatic efforts. The BJP's national spokesperson, Pradeep Bhandari, retorted, emphasizing India's emergence as a global trade leader under Modi's administration.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra highlighted the agreement's benefits for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, and fishermen. It opens access to a vast market worth nearly USD 30 trillion for Indian exporters, while maintaining protective measures for sensitive sectors such as agriculture and dairy.
