The Pakistan Salt Manufacturers Association (PSMA) has called on exporters and customs authorities to address packaging issues that have led to multiple rejections of consignments by international buyers. These problems threaten Pakistan's position as a major salt exporter.
During a recent meeting with the Collector of Customs Export, PSMA Chairperson Saima Akhtar emphasized the importance of adhering to packaging standards. She stated they had asked the authorities to ensure that shipments remain undamaged during handling to protect export revenues and market reputation.
While Pakistan exported 350,000 tonnes of salt worth USD 120 million in 2024, recent challenges have highlighted the need for improved measures. Notably, after India's ban on direct imports, Pakistani pink salt has found indirect routes to major markets, further complicating export dynamics.
