Bhartiya criticized the BJP for attempting to widen societal divisions through its version of women's reservation. He pointed out that the ruling party has consistently failed to appoint women to significant positions, questioning the BJP's commitment to gender equality. The SP's stance stems from a long-standing ideology focused on social justice, inspired by leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Jayaprakash Narayan.

The defeated Constitution Amendment Bill aimed to increase Lok Sabha seats to 850 by 2029 to enforce women's reservation, requiring a two-thirds majority which it fell short of. The issue of representation remains contentious, with the SP calling for a caste census to ensure equitable representation.
