The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has been fined Rs 30,000 by the Malappuram District Consumer Commission for not providing adequate service to an ailing passenger. The action was initiated after Mohammed Zainudheen Kormath filed a complaint against KSRTC for denying him a seat and failing to drop him at his specified stop.
Kormath had boarded a KSRTC bus from Amballur to Kolappuram, hoping for a seat due to his medical condition. Despite initial assurances, he was left standing for much of the journey and was not allowed to alight at his intended stop due to a route deviation.
The commission, led by President K Mohandas, found KSRTC's actions amounted to a deficiency in service, ordering Rs 25,000 in compensation and Rs 5,000 in litigation costs to be paid to Kormath. They have directed immediate compliance, with added interest penalties for delays.
