Massive LPG Price Hike Sparks Outrage: Congress Slams Centre’s Inflation Policies

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge sharply criticized the central government on Friday following a drastic hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices, condemning it as a failure of the government's assurances on inflation management. The LPG price surged by Rs 993 per 19-kg cylinder, marking a third consecutive monthly increase driven by rising global energy costs linked to the West Asia conflict.

Kharge expressed dismay over public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies despite the economic strain they impose. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the government of delaying the price hike until after elections, alleging manipulative governance that burdens citizens instead of offering economic stability. He highlighted that the cost increase severely impacts hotel owners, small vendors, and everyday food prices.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar echoed these concerns, criticizing the ruling party for exacerbating the plight of the poor with policies that raise living costs post-elections. He warned that such measures could devastate livelihoods, forcing businesses to close and impacting those relying on daily wages. Congress leaders vowed to protest against the price hike, which has sparked widespread outrage.
